MAPUSA: The state government is still in the process of acquiring the total land required for the construction of the Calvim bridge, the foundation stone for which was already laid in October. Sources informed STOI that the land acquisition process is still not complete though almost all the formalities are near completion. Sources said that there is a dispute with regard to the three plots of private land and there are some hitches in acquisition of that land.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar on October 27 had laid the foundation stone for the Carona-Calvim bridge in Aldona, Bardez, and assured its completion within eight months. The 494m-long bridge will connect Calvim island, which is a ward of Aldona, to Carona ward on the Aldona mainland. The awarded cost of the bridge is Rs 54.85 crore and it will be built through the Goa state infrastructure development corporation (GSIDC).
The government on November 7 issued the order directing the land acquisition officer of GSIDC to take the order for the acquisition of the said land.
?We are in the process of getting NOCs from the owners of the land. The work has been started on the land where the acquisition process is cleared,? GSIDC managing director Swapnil Naik said.
Sources said that the major portion of land required for the bridge is owned by the comunidade of Aldona and the land acquisition is still in the process though the comunidade has already given the NOCs.
Some portion comprising three plots are owned by private parties which are under some dispute.
