How many times do you go to someone?s house or someone comes to yours and bring a gift? Chance are not all that often these days. We try to teach our children manners and to be appreciative (this can be a double-edged sword at times.) I make sure that we when go to someone?s home we bring a gift, even if it is just something small. Why should you bring a gift?
The truth is that it is the polite way of saying thank you. Teaching this to children is another matter all together. My son thinks that every time he goes to his friend Jack?s he needs to bring Jack a gift. When you see someone often, eat at their home often, etc you don?t have to bring a gift every single time. However the occasional gift would be a nice gesture. The other down side of teaching this practice to our children is that that don?t always understand when they don?t receive a gift from people that visit them.
It is an uphill climb but one that we are happily undertaking along with teaching them to write handwritten Thank You cards or letters when they do receive gifts or when we attend functions together. Do you teach your children the practice of giving the hostess a gift?
