Maybe it is cheesy to review my own product so I got my 15-year-old to help, because I really want to share with you something I really believe in.
British Literature: a Full-Year High School Literature Course is a 120-page etext that Sabrina and I use when we study Brit Lit with our homeschool group. It includes study guides for 9 books (one each month of the school year). These include:

Chosen because of its beautiful allegory format and insight into 20th century international political issues

Chosen because of the great discussion material it provided over the dicotomy of good and evil within each person
-The Hobbit
Chosen because Tolkien initiated the 20th century myth-fantasy genre in a manner respectful of ancient writers
-A Christmas Carol
Chosen because it is the greatest Christmas story that Britain has to offer (and we love it)
-British Poetry Selections
Chosen because of their inspirational quality, readability for those not well-versed in poetry, and great poetic style
-Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats
Chosen because it is SOOO much fun. Will win even reluctant readers over to poetry????????????? 
-A Tale of Two Cities
Chosen because of its great literary quality and discussion tie-in with 21st century revolutions

Each study guide provides vocabulary, background information necessary to understand and enjoy the story, and comprehension and application questions.
There are also easy to follow guidelines for:
-Making this a full Language Arts credit (by adding personal reading books to the number required by local umbrella schools, writing, and speaking)
-Increasing the credit level from College Prep to Advanced or Honors
-Using the text individually, in co-ops, or in groups
We take a thoughtful, Christian view throughout the text and concentrate on application topics that will help a student think about and apply faith to their lives.

My son was in 9th grade when he did this text (other homeschoolers in the class ranged from 9th-12 grade). His favorite books/study guides were: Practical Cats (his very favorite), Animal Farm, A Christmas Carol, The Hobbit, Tale of Two Cities ("It was long and difficult but I really liked it."), and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He tells me that he "HATED" Sense and Sensibility but that it helped him understand British life in those days, "especially that it was rotten to be a woman back then". He didn't classify, "Poetry" as a favorite because "I don't really like poetry except 'Cats'" but felt it was "important to help my writing and reading skills". He also didn't love Invisible Man but felt "it was valuable because the questions in the study guide were great for discussion".
I highly recommend this "no-busywork" text. It is rich with great info and questions but leaves your teen to apply (and also time to have a life, we hope). Download British Literature for 50% off today only using Coupon Code BritLit
