ARTICLES MANIAC ? Common Safety Guidelines For Any Workplace

While it may seem obvious to many, workplace safety is something that is overlooked by quite a few people, and costs this country untold millions of dollars every single year. This additional cost is passed on to the consumer, making products more expensive. That is definitely something that we don?t need with our struggling economy.

In this article I?ll go over some basic workplace safety tips, so you can increase your productivity, decrease your chances of accidents and necessary time off work, and decrease your company?s cost of operations. While many of these points may seem basic and obvious, sometimes we need to take a step back and re learn the obvious things in order to move forward.

The most important tip is to go slow. Take your time. Even though your boss may be breathing down your neck to hurry up and finish, going too fast is the biggest cause of mistakes, and accidents. Every time you cut corners, there?s an increased chance you?ll make a mistake, and these mistakes can sometimes do terrible damage to your health. No matter what your job is, take your time, and avoid cutting corners.

The second tip is to always ask for advice before doing something you?re unsure of. Even if it means hearing the wrath of your boss telling you that you should already know how to do that, take the time to ask anyway. It may save you from doing it wrong, and injuring yourself. That would make your boss really angry.

Another simple tip is to take your time to follow the proper procedure. There are plenty of laws in place that state that anything that is even remotely dangerous must have a specific procedure in place, and in that procedure, there are steps to maximize your safety. By strictly following written procedures, you will drastically minimize your risk of injury. If there isn?t a written procedure, and your boss is still asking you do perform some kind of dangerous task, then this is something that should be brought to the attention of your human resources department.

One final tip is to make sure to handle and dispose of chemicals properly. If you handle any chemicals at work, no matter how harmless you may think they are, you must have a material safety data sheet (MSDS) that is readily available to all employees. This data sheet lists all the dangers of the chemicals as well as what to do in case of a spill. When in doubt, always consult your MSDS to make sure you are handling the chemicals the right way.

Although these tips may seem obvious and straightforward, they are very important. By following them, you will experience less accidents, cost your company less money, and be more productive.
